Making a Home: Adding Value to Housing Transitions

Through the Housing Priority Area, Wyatt aims to support:

- reduced incidence of homelessness

- improved housing security

- reduced financial hardship when establishing a home

A longstanding partnership with Southern Junction Community Services (SJCS), Wyatt’s Transitional Support Packages fund the provision of essential household goods for people moving from homelessness to secure and affordable housing.

Housing is fundamental for every aspect of daily life; the provision of secure and affordable housing can lead to improved social, health, financial wellbeing, employment and education outcomes.

Since 2007, Wyatt has provided over 100 packages to long-term clients of SJCS adding value to the support provided by SJCS throughout the transition.

A male client, who had been living in a boarding house for several years, was assisted to move into a Housing SA property. As a beneficiary of a Wyatt Transition Support Package, he made this move with minimal anxiety. The package enabled him to sleep on a new mattress, in his own bed, and now he was not reliant on others for his comfort and stability. This increased independence was a source of great encouragement to him.

As well as reporting on how funds were used, Southern Junction evaluates the effectiveness of the housing outcomes by measuring the length of tenancies, the housing type, and cost of rent in relation to income.
