Social Impact Investment Network SA Takes Off!

The Wyatt Trust was delighted to join with an enthusiastic crowd of around seventy people from the finance, government, community and philanthropic sectors for the first major seminar in South Australia on social finance and to launch the Social Impact Investment Network SA. The network Chair and Wyatt CE, Paul Madden, said of the seminar: “There is a global movement afoot in social impact investment. Impact investments are those investments made with the intention to generate measurable social and environmental impact alongside a financial return.

Social impact investments are now being applied in producing both financial returns and better social outcomes in some of society’s most challenging areas, for example: children in State care, offender recidivism, and disability housing. In the UK there are currently 14 active social impact bonds and in NSW two bonds have been issued focused on family restoration and placement prevention of children into care. The seminar speakers included Jane Newman, International Director of Social Finance UK and others associated with the Australian initiatives in the area.
